With over 35.000 copies sold each year Gault&Millau is the leading gastronomic guide in the Belux. Each year the Gault&Millau inspectors anonymously review around 1100 restaurants. This year's edition welcomes more than 10% newcomers worth trying if you love great food.
Chef of the Year 2016
The most important award is the title of "Chef of the Year" (NL : Chef van het jaar / FR Chef de L'année). This year’s winner is Sang-Hoon Degeimbre of l’Air du temps in Liernu. Gault&Millau describes his kitchen as extremely precise, inventive, poetic and daring.

young chefs of the year
Another great category to try out is that of the “young chefs of the year”(NL : Jonge Topchefs / FR : Jeune Chef). This year's winners are Cédric Delsaut (Bienvenue chez vous - Namen) for Wallonia, Marcello Ballardin (OAK - Gent) for Flanders and Maxime Colin (La Villa Lorraine - Brussel) for Brussels.
3 promotions & a newcomer at 17/20
3 restaurants get promoted to the 17/20 level and therefore receive their 3th chef's hat: La Paix in Brussels, La Source in Lanaken and Bistro Margaux in Sint-Martens-Bodegem. Newcomer Villa in the sky (Brussels) enters the selection at this top level.

Host of the Year
Thomas Schmidt of Brasserie Boulevard (Sint-Martens-Latem) is awarded "Host of the Year". Those who know Thomas can confirm that a warm welcome and professional explanation does make a difference.

The title of "Brasserie of the Year" goes to Silo’s (Boortmeerbeek). If you’re looking for the perfect Gastro-bistro go to Ogst (Hasselt). Those who like to be amazed by a really nice terrace should go to Vivendum (Dilsen-Stokkem).
To meet Belgium's new leading sommelier "Mathieu Vanneste" and probably have the best meal of your live one has to go and enjoy Hof van Cleve (Kruishoutem). Wine lovers should also visit Roosenberg (Waasmunster) for their amazing wine selection.

Desert lovers should head to Schone van Boskoop (Boechout), "a winner without competition" dixit Gault&Millau. Azian restaurant of the year is l’Esprit Bouddha (Gosselies), for the best Italian food you reserve at Lucana (Wanze). A bit short on cash? Best price/quality ratio goes to Visbistro Mojo (Flanders), Wine Bar des Marolles (Brussels) and La Garrigue (Wallonia).
This years rare finds are Bistro Racine (Braine-le-Château), La Femme du sommelier (Brussel) and Brasa (Knokke-Heist) at the seaside.

You can discover the whole selection as of Wednesday for €28 in your local bookshop or online via gaultmillau.be.
